Kirk Yeaman of Hull FC thinks that fans will support English squad - Gillette Four Nations
While talking to reporters on Thursday, November 10, Kirk Yeaman of Hull FC staed that he believes that even fans from Hull KR will support the English side during Saturday’s sudden-death encounter of the Gillette Four Nations’ at KC Stadium against New Zealand.
The player thinkgs that when player are participating at a national level, fans forgo rivalries from the club level. He also added that when there is no representation from the other Hull based club team, Rovers’ support for the national cause makes more sense.
While expressing his views about Saturday’s showdown, Yeaman added, "I'm sure a few will be biting their lip over me and Tom but overall we are representing out country so I'm sure they'll be cheering us. It's going to be electric. I've played in front of 25,000 there in a derby match so I know what to expect. It helps massively when the crowd gets behind you. It can be an intimidating crowd. They're passionate about rugby league; in fact supporters of all three teams in the city are all passionate about their sport. There's going to be 20,000-plus English people getting behind England.”
The player is of the view that with the large backing, the English side will be able to perform much better on the pitch. However, Yeaman added that the crowd may boost their on-field performance against Kiwis, but there can be a flip side and the players may crack under the pressure of the crowd.
The 28-year-old is aspiring to play alongside Tom Briscoe in the English line-up for this weekend’s game against the Kiwis, which will be his fourth consecutive representation for England, after he made his come back from his four-year send away from the international level.
The player believes that to represent his country during the weekend game will be another highlight in his career, as he considers playing for his country an honour. What tops it is the fact that the player will play on his home-soil, where his entire family will come to watch the match live.
