Kirkwood stop of North Face Masters postponed due to lack of snow – Snowboarding News
The North Face Masters of Snowboarding presented by PrimaLoft has postponed its next stop that is in Kirkwood, California.
The event was originally scheduled to get underway from March 1-4, but the snow conditions at the Kirkwood have compelled the event organisers, Mountain Sport International, to postpone the event in order to provide the best possible conditions for the competition.
The Kirkwood stop of the North Face Maters of Snowboarding will run from March 29 – April 1, expecting the Kirkwood resort to have a heavier deposit of snow by that time.
Kirkwood normally offers a deep snow base, making it one of the most attractive sites for winter action sports events in California. However, the ski area has been relatively low on snow this season.
Despite a snow base of 67-75 inches at the event site, the event organisers have opted to keep the competition on hold, anticipating the conditions to improve during the next month.
Mountain Sport International event manager Bryan Barlow clarified the decision to delay the event, stating, “It is unfortunate that we have to cancel the event, but currently the coverage is not up to our standards.”
The decision taken by the event organisers has been taken after considering the requirement of snow to open up the zones and lines that the riders will need to get into at The Cirque, the primary event site.
Professional snowboarder Alex Yoder from Jackson Hole, America, completely agreed with the decision taken by Mountain Sport International to push the beginning date of the latest North Face Maters of Snowboarding event to the end of March.
“I think it's a good call,” said Yoder. “Running a contest like this without the right conditions would have led to a somewhat inconsistent and potentially dangerous scenario.”
Yoder had just missed out on the podium after finishing in fourth place at North Face Masters Crystal stop last week and is hoping to get an opportunity to ride in ideal conditions at the next stop to make a strong comeback.
The North Face Masters of Snowboarding is a three-stop tour that attracts some of the top mountain riders to compete for a slice of the $50,000 prize purse.
