Kirsten Wild wins the final stage to bag her second win at the Ladies Tour of Qatar
Kirsten Wild of Netherlands won the final stage of the Ladies Tour of Qatar after her splendid performance during the third day of the race. She was quick enough to finish the race in the fastest time of 2 hours, 38 minutes and 36 seconds.
Kirsten also won the opening stage of the race with the quickest time of 2 hours, 16 minutes and 50 seconds.
She was challenged by her fellow citizens during the final sprint of the third stage but Kirsten proved her strengths to finish the third and the final stage of the race ahead of Elen Van Dijk and Adriana Visser.
American rider, Kendall Ryan, won the first sprint of the event, while Judith Arndt and Kirsten Wild dominated the second and the third sprints.
Chloe Hosking, Elena Cecchini and Marta Tagliaferro were the top three young riders of the day.
German cyclist, Judith Arndt, was leading the stage 2 classifications and she was looking good to bag the overall victory at the race.
Her only concern was Trixi Worrack who was just 2 seconds behind at the second position.
Arndt of Team GreenEdge-AIS kept a close eye on Trixi during the final stage of the race and she succeeded to maintain her overall lead in the race.
She finished fourth during the third stage and achieved the overall win at the Ladies Tour of Qatar.
Trixi finished 9th and managed the second overall position at the race, with Kirsten Wild, Elen Van Dijk and Chloe Hosking grabbing the third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
GreenEdge-AIS Sports Director, Rod McGee was overwhelmed with the success, "With the team just starting out, this kind of success is terrific. They rode really well over the three days. They showed us they were in great condition and really motivated with
their wins in January”.
He continued, "The girls were down to their slowest speed the whole race at the start. They were going under 20 kilometres per hour. Eventually, it changed to crosswinds, and when the field split all our girls made the front group".
Team GreenEdge-AIS secured the second overall position in the team’s classification with Team Specialized Lululemon at the first position. Team Mcipollini Giambenini achieved the third spot after the final team’s classification.
