Kirstry Coventry seals Women’s 200m IM title at 2011 All African Games: Day five - Recap
Day five of the 2011 All African Games saw an impressive swim at the Zimpeto National Stadium in Maputo, Mozambique, on Friday, September 9. The session of the competition conducted the Women’s 200m Individual Medley final race, where Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry
hit the wall in 2 minutes and 13.70 seconds to win the gold medal.
The swim of Kirstry Coventry was short of her previous best meet record of 2 minutes and 13.02 seconds, set back in 2007.
In the corresponding race, Mandy Loots of South Africa took home the silver medal on the podium by posting a stunning time of 2 minutes and 15.71 seconds. The bronze medal was taken over by Many Loots’ fellow citizen, Kathryn Meaklim with a winning time
of 2 minutes and 18.60 seconds.
Sara Lajnef of Tunisia earned fourth place honours in a time of 2 minutes and 20.16 seconds, while Samantha Welch of Zimbabwe rounded out the top five with an impressive mark of 2 minutes and 30.02 seconds. In the corresponding swim, Elodie Poo Cheong of
Mauritius was placed sixth in a time of 2 minutes and 33.48 seconds. Last, but not the least, Gessica Stagno of Mozambique earned seventh place honours in a time of 2 minutes and 35.37 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Le Clos secured gold medal in the Men’s 200m butterfly with a winning mark of 1 minute and 56.37 seconds. After the race, Le Clos commented that he was immensely delighted with his sparkling swim in the competition. Meanwhile, Jason Dunford
of Kenya earned silver title in a time of 2 minute and 02.52 seconds and Pedro Pinotes of Angola settled for bronze medal in 2 minutes and 05.47 seconds.
In addition, Charl Crous of South Africa earned gold medal in the Men’s 100m back-stroke in a time of 55.26 seconds. Darren Murray of South Africa settled for silver medal in a time of 55.96 seconds, whereas, Mohammed Hussein of Egypt captured bronze medal
on the podium by posting a matchless time of 57.63 seconds.
The arena applauded for worthwhile swims of the athletes, while the victorious were awarded medals and accolades after the end of day five’s session.
