Kirsty Coventry captures Women’s 400m IM crown: Day one – 2011 All Africa Games
The 2011 All Africa Games began in Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, on Monday, September 5. Almost 53 nations are taking part in the competition. Day one of the 2011 All Africa Games saw the impressive splash of Kirsty Coventry in the Women’s
400m Individual Medley race.
In the corresponding race, Coventry of Zimbabwe powered the wall in 4 minutes and 44.34 seconds to take home the first gold medal of the meet for her nation. While revealing about her swim, Zimbabwean swimmer, Kirsty Coventry stated that it was indeed a
challenging splash for her. Coventry further added that she was really excited and pleased with her emphatic victory.
Kathryn Meaklim of South African took home the silver medal on the podium after she touched the finishing wall in the respective meet and ended her swim by posting an immaculate time of 4 minutes and 46.33 seconds. After the race, Meaklim said that she was
happy and pleased with her splash. Last, but not the least, Bianca Meyer captured the bronze title of the platform by submitting a riveting time of 4 minutes and 51.20 seconds.
Earlier, Karin Prinsloo of South Africa snared the golden crown in the Women’s freestyle final heat after she touched the finishing wall with a victorious time of 56.05 seconds. Moreover, Karin won her second gold medal of the meet in the Women’s 50m back-stroke
race with a winning mark of 29.76 seconds.
Additionally, the Men’s 100m breast-stroke title was taken over by Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa with a triumphant time of 1 minute and 02.44 seconds. Meanwhile, Wassim Elloumi of Tunisia snagged the silver medal in the respective meet after he touched
the wall to conclude his swim with a matchless time of 1 minute and 03.17 seconds.
The crowd gave a huge round of applause to all the participants for their scintillating swims in the meet, while the winners were honoured with medals and accolades after the session’s completion.
