Kirsty Coventry clinches Women’s 200m IM gold: Day one – 2012 Paris Open
Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe clinched gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on day one of the 2012 Paris Open Swimming Championships on Friday, July 6.
Coventry smothered all efforts of her challengers by seizing gold medal of the IM event. Her notable efforts placed her considerably ahead of her strongest challenger and she faced no difficulty in snaring gold medal of the event.
With her impeccable efforts, she enjoyed a lead of almost two body lengths over her immediate competitor and claimed gold medal of the event with the timing of 2 minutes and 13.60 seconds.
The champion was followed by Duane Da Rocha Marce of Spain, who stayed 1.69 seconds slower and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 15.29 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Lara Grangeon of France, who stayed nearly one second behind Rocha Marce and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 16.18 seconds.
The bronze medallist was trailed by Alessia Polieri of Italy, who was 1.09 seconds apart and settled on the finishing wall as fourth best finisher with the timing of 2 minutes and 17.27 seconds.
Afterwards, the audience witnessed remarkable efforts of Yannick Agnel of France in the Men’s 400m freestyle final. The French swimmer wasted no time and proved his mettle for gold medal of the discipline by submitting a time of 3 minutes and 51.97 seconds.
He was followed by Soeren Meissner of Germany, who stayed nearly four seconds apart and occupied silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 3 minutes and 55.46 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Damien Joly of France, who stayed 0.49 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end with an effort of 3 minutes and 55.95 seconds.
Joly was traced by his teammate, Anthony Pannier, who stayed 0.34 seconds behind and ended his swim in a time of 3 minutes and 56.29 seconds.
Agnel was extremely delighted with his achievement in the 400m discipline and articulated his desire of accomplishing the same at the forthcoming London Olympic Games.
