Kirsty Gilmour finds much needed breakthrough at Thwack Czech International 2012 – Badminton feature
Scotland’s upcoming shuttler Kirsty Gilmour left all of her past memories behind and finally got the much needed breakthrough as she claimed Women’s Singles title at the Thwack Czech Republic International 2012 that ended on September 30, at Brno, Czech
Republic.
The in-form Kirsty has been facing a tough period for the last one year and remained struggling to make her presence felt to the world. However, she finally proved her worth and played impressive badminton throughout the tournament and defeated many top
shuttlers in her way to glory.
Kirsty, who was seeded at number 7 in Women’s Singles draw in the Czech International, put up staggering show of top quality play and proved that she has achieved the highest level of skills resulting from the untiring hard work and dedicated efforts she
has been putting in for the last couple of years.
The impressive Scottish lady was in staggering from in the tournament as she did not show any sign of confusion and remained successful in making her presence felt in the arena of badminton in an impressive fashion.
In the Women’s Singles first round of the tournament, she was up against England’s spirited shuttler Sarah Walker who has also been working hard for the last couple of years to earn glory at world stage.
It was an interesting contest when both shuttlers put up staggering show of top class game throughout the contest. However, Kirsty managed to control the affairs of rallies in the final set and won this match in three sets with a convincing margin on score
board.
In the second round contest, Kirsty was taking on the local opponent Katerina Tomalova who easily won her opening round battle in a convincing margin. The Scottish lady was in no mood to spare even a slight mercy to her challenger and easily registered a
comprehensive victory by finishing up the match in straight games with a lopsided margin on the board.
In the Women’s Singles quarter-final, Kirsty locked horns against Denmark’s Lene Clausen who also won her both match in the tournament in a dominating manner. The Scottish shuttler again stamped her supremacy on court by playing at her best speed and she
easily managed to end up the match in a one-sided way in straight sets.
However, the most interesting fight came in the Women’s Singles semi-final competition when Kirsty was up against the home favourite and top seed Kristina Gavnholt who was also in her top form and won all matches of the tournament in a dictating way.
Seventh seeded Kirsty put up stunning show of top class badminton by playing at her maximum speed against her top seeded rival who was playing positive and fast game by taking the bird early from all areas of the court.
Kirsty was in superb form in the ending points of third game as she employed all of her skills and elevated her play at the right time which assisted her to win the match in rubber games with a tight margin on score board.
In the final battle, Kristina took on France’s Sashina Vignes Waran who was the fourth seed in the tournament. The lower ranked Scottish player displayed her impressive craft and maintained pressure on her higher ranked challenger all the way to win the
match in three sets with a decent margin.
The victory came at the right time for Kristina who has elevated her skills by working hard in departments of the game and has also become one of the main Scottish players by proving her worth in the Czech International 2012.
