Kirsty Gilmour remains invincible in pre quarter-finals of 2012 Bitburger Badminton Open GP Gold
Women’s Singles player Kirsty Gilmour stretched her winning streak in Bitburger Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold and made her way into the quarter-final round on November 1, 2012.
The Scottish campaigner unseated Tee Jing Yi of Malaysia to surge into top eight shuttlers of this tournament.
She took just 35 minutes to register a favourable result of 21-14 and 21-18. This splendid win setup her next clash with Petya Nedelcheva of Bulgaria.
In the pre quarter-final match, Kirsty was struggling in the beginning but then she got control by prevailing in a couple of consecutive rallies.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian shuttler relished full benefits of her rival’s blunders and established a decent lead before the announcement of a break.
Jing Yi kick-started her campaign with three uninterrupted points and then strengthened her grip by registering 11-8 total at the half time.
However, the opposing shuttler did not remain at the lower end permanently as she managed to rise on her toes in later part of the game.
Kristy, who was an unseeded player of this tournament, registered her presence by showing a commendable fighting spirit. She prevailed in eight rallies without any interruption and placed a mountainous figure of 16-11.
This deficit proved too much for the Malaysian shuttler as she could not narrow the gap and lost this crucial match point with a huge difference in the final margin.
She looked completely off colour as she could not utilise her brilliance and experience to avoid a 14-21 defeat.
The next game kept swinging between two contenders all the way to game point situation as Jing Yi was in strong position until third quarter of the set but then few unforced errors brought her down.
Jing Yi kept a low profile in the beginning but she made swift progress after 4-4 and clinched four consecutive points.
She kept on moving forward until half time and placed a decent figure of 11 before the one-minute break.
After the interval, Jing Yi could not maintain this rhythm and allowed Kristy to level the score at 16-16.
The Scottish campaigner did not squander this opportunity and sealed her straight-set victory with an impressive knock of 21-18.
