Question:

Kish Family Research Help?

Upon getting a copy of my gr-grandparents license, I learned the names of my gr-gr-grandparents Imre Kish and Elizabeth Bakos. There daughter was Anna Kish, born 1912 in Large, PA. I know of one other child, James Kish born about 1904 in Hungary.

Imre Kish was born in Dercske, Hungary, and his wife Elizabeth Bakos was born in Csicser, Hungary. They probably immigrated around 1908, as that's when James said he immigrated on the 1930 Census. At the very least it was between 1904 and 1912, after James' and before Anna's birth. I believe at the time of their daughter's marriage in April 1928 they were living at 2502 Walnut Street, McKeesport, PA, as that's Anna's residence on the marriage license. (Anna was living w/husband and brother there in 1930.) Imre was a Mill Worker.

I can't find them on the Census or immigration lists, despite trying various tricks I've found successsful with other relatives. Any ideas would be appreciated, like alternate names for Imre?

    Imre

Hungarian form of the Germanic name Emeric or Emmerich. This seems to be a byform of Henry, but it has possibly also absorbed a rarer name composed of the elements "amal" work + "ric" rule. St Emeric (1007-–31) was the son and heir of St Stephen of Hungary. In spite of his comparatively short life, he was canonized together with his father in 1063
