Kitchen Countertops?

I am considering either getting granite or silestone/quartz countertops. Which is the better choice? Has anyone done the research and got either of those installed? Why did you choose one over the other?

  1. I think that you should probably get concrete ones. I just got some and they are AWSOME! I had granite ones in my old house and they would get all streaky every time I would clean them and you can't put any heat on them such as a hot pan or baking sheet. I HATED the granite ones. The concrete ones don't get streaky, are more heat resistant, and look A LOT better.

  2. I got granite because of the many choices for color and the durability of course.  If you go to a local granite shop rather than a big box retail store, you can usually select the slab of granite they will actually use..AND it's a lot cheaper than the big box stores.   Silestone and quartz were too expensive for me - I have a lot of countertops!  But if I could have afforded it, I would have considered quartz.

Edited to add:  I don't have the same problems as crzay cat lady with steaking and placing hot things on mine.

  3. My wife and I were also considering quartz counter-tops, and did not due to the pricing factor.

Quartz may be a more durable solution between the two choices.

There are three major types of new counter-tops will not stain with out you having to seal or protect the counter-tops. Korion, Quartz, and stainless steel counter-tops are the big three - Counter-tops That Do Not Stain With Spills. http://www.brandsconstruction.com/Blogb2...

If safety is a concern for children or the elderly - choose a counter-top with rounded edges.

    Wishing You the Best!

  4. Silestone Quartz is the best choice. I was trying to decide between the two myself, and Quartz doesn't have to be sealed like granite does and it isn't as sensitive to heat. You can't put a hot pot directly onto a granite countertop because it can stain, but Quartz doesn't have that problem.
