Question:

Kitchen Sink wont drain!?

by  |  earlier

I have a double basin kitchen sink and neither side will drain. I have used chemical treatments and i have taken apart the piping under the sink and tried using a snake to correct the problem. I took a flashlight and checked all the piping under the sink and the pipes are clear.

What are the possible problems and solutions to this problem.

Thanks.

  1. sounds like an air lock if theres no physical blockage, use a plunger and see if that clears the blockage

if not then the drains underneath are blocked and you'll need to call someone in about them

if the snake comment is a hint this is joke then i hope you're pleased with yourself

  2. try taking off the piece that is in the shape of a j.  the j trap.  make sure ur water is off thoguh.  see if that works. if not the other things should have worked so call a plumber

  3. sounds like you need a bigger snake. however a snake can just push thru grease and when it pulles back out it will close itself up. you may also have rice stuck in there. for grease and rice your gonna need to have your pipes jetted out with a high pressure water jet

  4. More than likely you may have galvanized pipes you may have to change the entire pipeing system

  5. Take two m80 fire crackers and drop them down the hole it will clean your drain

Your problem is in the line just after the plumbing that leads to the sewer

  6. This happens to my sink a lot.

It is grease stuck in the bottom of the pipe where the house pipe meets the sewer pipe. You need at least 30 to 50 feet of snaking to get at the clog.

  7. This happens to my sink all the time it could be a larger problem considering you took all your piping apart but I always use white vinegar put it in slowly I usually use a whole bottle it might take a day but it should work.GOOD LUCK:)

  8. I was having the same problem with my bathroom sink.  I used a product that is highly toxic -- you need to wear goggles when you use it.. It's called "liquid fire" and you get it at Ace Hardware.. or any hardware shop.

It will remove ANY clogs -- trust me.   I tried Draino a few times.. I used a plunger.. a snake.. and nothing would remove the clog until someone told me about this stuff.

Like I said -- it is very toxic.. So make sure to keep it up high in your house, so no kids (even if u don't have children in the house.. just family/friends' kids).. and pets do not get into it.. and make sure to use protective gear when using it... and follow the directions carefully.. (by the way, you can't get it on the toilet-- FYI)

Trust me... it works like a charm.

  9. If you want a simple answer, just try a new toilet plunger. That might clean out any clogs. Or, you could call a plumber to get it fixed.

If you want to do it yourself, you might want to get a thin rod with a hook on the end or something like that to pull out the clog. I would need some more information about what you use your sink for. If you think it's hair, try pulling it out. If not, just try a plunger.

If you have some experiance with plumbing, you could try and clean it out and take it apart yourself. This is only advisable if you have experiance. If you don't, I would suggest a plumber.

If you're more into renovating, you could check to see if the sink is properly vented. So, you know it's a venting problem if the sink 'blows bubbles' when it's draining.

So, to summarize all the options, a plumber, a plunger, or a hook.

  10. get a plumber
