Question:

Kitchen cabinet idea?

I want to put/paste pictures on my kitchen cabinets that will cover them fully (yes they are that atrocious looking). I know I could cover them with fabric using liquid starch, but I don't think that's a good idea for a kitchen since I don't want the fabric to hold in any "kitchen-y" smells. So, I was wondering can I use Liquid Starch to put pictures on the cabinets. I'm renting to whatever I use to put them up there have to be easy to bring down and not harm the "precious" cabinets they have up.

  1. There is a spray adhesive you should be able to get in any office supply store. See below. When you move out, remove pictures and cleand cabinets underneath.

As ugly as you say the cabinets are, I would venture to say, pictures may not imporive the "look" you desire. Ask the landlord if you can paint the cabinets. Many times landlords will make improvements if a) you are a good tenant with good payment history and b) if you are staing for a while. Offer to help him install new cabinets.

  2. It sounds like a neat idea, but I'd be concerned about the color of the photos bleeding.  If you're looking to do a long term cabinent overhaul you may want to try craft glue sticks and polyeurothane clear coat to protect the photos.  I've never personally used polyeurothane on photos, so you'll certianly want to test a photo first.  One nice thing about polyeurothane coating is if in the future you want to paint your cabinents and not have the photos, you can just paint over the clear coat.

  3. Renting?  I wouldn't do anything without landlords approval!
