Kitchen cabinets?

If I buy new cabinet fronts for the kitchen and sand down the base -- will the stain look the same?

Not quite sure what you mean by buying new cabinet fronts.  Do you mean new doors?  If so, it should be possible to get them to match, but the stain must match exactly.  Some cabinet manufacturers will sell you a quart or gallon of the stain they use.  (I know that KraftMaid will do this.)  

Of course, you will have to sand off *all* of the old finish.  It will be a lot of work, but possible.

You can get very close. Experiment on areas that won't show, like the inside of the cabinets and inside the doors. You may need two shades of stain to match up the new doors with the old cabinets.
