While in the hospital in Peshawar, Amir has a dream in which he sees his father wrestling a bear: "They role over a patch of grass, man and beast...they fall to the ground with a loud thud and Baba is sitting on the bear's chest, his fingers digging in its snout. He looks up at me, and I see. He's me. I am wrestling the bear." Why is this dream so important at this point in the story? What does this dream finally help Amir realize?

  1. its kind of a coming of age dream. throughout Amir's life he always admired his father and noticed how other people respected him. And when he was a child he felt like his father wasn't all that proud of him.  As he grows older with more responsibilities, he finds himself  "wrestling the same bears" as his father does (or did). In short, the dream finally helps him realize that he is not much different from his father than he thought when he was younger.

  2. i'm guessing he realizes that he is like his father...it's been atleast 3 years since i read it,so i'm kind of drawing a blank
