  1. I have the book and have yet to read it either.  However this book is out on movie now too.   Good luck.

  2. As a child, Amirs always stood in his father's shadow.  He was great only because his father was a great man.  Left to his devices, when it was time to stand up and do what was right, he wilted like a flower in the scorching desert sun.  He saw himself for what he was and learned to accept it.  It was not until well after his father's death (the ultimate sacrifice of love and life -- for others including those he did not know) that he discovered his father's biggest flaw and at that point was able to step out from the shadow.  His first attempt at being a great man almost ended in failure when he attempted to rescue his father's illegitimate son's son (his nephew).  But still, he was a work in progress and it all came to fruition when he was at last able to stand up to a power perceived as greater than his own -- when he told his father in-law the general, that the boy has a name and from this day forward you will address him by that name.  The boy (his nephew) had been tortured by a Talibani and used as a s*x slave.  The boy's father, Amir's half brother, was raised in Amir's home by both his father and his mother's husband -- who'd been unable to impregnate his wife so Amir's father did the job.  His half-brother and his father were raised and treated as servants to Amir and his father.  Amir was unaware of the relationship.  Amir's half-brother was the stronger of the two but without money and influence paid a horrible price to protect Amir.  As a child, Amir made the living situation unbearable and so his half-brother and his father left their house.  As the Russians began taking over the country Amir and his father were forced to flee.  His father died ensuring the safe passage of everyone in their company who were also fleeing.  Amir witnessed his father's death.

  4. I would suggest you read the first half of the book - the second half slowed down but what you need would be in the first half.
