  1. the first time amir planted money under a mattress, the purpose was to get rid of hassan and his dad. this time, amir is planting the money to help the family financially. he sees they are poor and near starvation, so he has gone through a significant change since the last time he was in afghanistan


  2. It is important because at first, Amir put a fistful of crumpled money under his brothers pillow so he could frame him but he puts this money under his pillow as a gestur of goodwill and too help them.
