i have a four week old kitten it's eyes are glued shut with puss.

i tried cleaning them with a bit of water and a sponge.

they'd go away for a day or two only to come back.

i have three kittens and the other two don't have this problem.

aside from being slightly thinner than his siblings he has the same appetite and is just as energetic.

whats causing this and is there a way to get rid of it once and for all.

  1. Sounds like this kitten needs a course of antibiotics

  2. She might have an eye infection. I know this because my cat's had the same eye infection her whole life. Her eye closes shut, too, and she won't open it until we give her her medicine. So take s/he to the vet and see what's wrong.

  3.   Your kitten most likely has an eye infection. If you have any neosporin at home, you can put that in its eye, it is an antbiotic and will clear up the bacteria causing the eye infection. Also, if you have any medication for pink eye (conjunctivitis) that wil work as well without harming it. I personally have done this and it worked great. Otherwise take it to your local vet and get medicine from them.

  4. Sounds likely that it could be allergies, especially since you say that the other kittens don't have this trouble.

Don't rule out that there might be an infection or even that the tear ducts are clogged.

If this has been going on for awhile, be best to check with your vet.

  5. He either has a kitty cold, or an eye infection.  Your kitten needs to see a vet right now.  Also, infections are contagious, and the other kittens might not have starting showing symptons yet.

THe only thing you can do is take the kitten to a vet.  Without actually knowing why your cats eyes are doing this, you can't use an over the counter product to fix it.

Also, the other kittens should see the vet too - just a brief check up.

  6. He has an eye infection, this sometimes come with an upper respiratory infection.  He needs to go to the vet.  It is very contagious.  If it is a URI he will die without treatment.  Antibiotics are the only treatment
