I am having trouble with my kittens formula. Its so clumpy. I mix and mix and mix and its STILL clumpy. Do I need to use hot water or cold?....the kitten seems to like it tap temperature. Also can I make a big batch of formula and keep it in the fridge? If yes, for how long?

Anything else you want to add for be appreciated

thanks

  1. If you are using poweder instead of the ready mix, then I would use hot water to mix it.  Once mixed, it will be good for about 3 days in the fridge.

  2. dont use so much formula and use hot water. shake and shake the bottle until most of the clumps are gone. kittens like their formula really warm anyways. yes you can mix up a bunch and put it in the fridge, but i think its easier to mix it by the bottle each time you make it because then its fresh and you can just add warm/hot water instead of microwaving it. a week is probably the max you would want to have mixed up formula in your fridge. mix it by the bottle each time, its easier.

also what kind of bottle are you feeding them with? a plastic bottle with a long skinny nipple works the best. if the kittens are having trouble sucking and mostly chew the nipple, squeeze the bottle a tiny bit and they will suck. good luck : ]

oh and the kittens i have freak out and scratch me up because they get so excited when they are eating so i set them on a big cozy towel or blanket so they can "push" with their paws like they would on a momma kitten.

  3. Well I have heard that about the formula you mix with water.  I would just spend the extra money and buy the ready to use.  Try to find the Just born.  It is good for 14 days once you open it where as KMR is only good for 3 days once you open.  Oh and Just Born has colostrum in it.
