I got a kitten yesterday...I have two older cats and they are just growling at the kitten and don't want to come inside anymore. My older cats are 3 years old. All cats are female, Is that normal or will it get better, can I do anything?

  1. New feline relationships equal time and patience.  But almost always the cats work things out in there own way.

    Good luck!

  2. Totally normal. Cats are EXTREMELY territorial.  They are just growling at the kitten to try and tell it that this is their space and their owner. They are essentially defending you even though you don't need it. They see the kitten as an outsider and as a threat. Wouldn't you be uncomfortable if some stranger were to come into your house suddenly and you weren't sure why? Once they get used to the fact that this new kitten isnt going anywhere they will warm up to it. Trust me. You only need to worry if your older cats start physically attacking the kitten, but for now make sure you pay special attention to the older cats until they start to relax. :-)

  3. females fight a lot. maybe a pair would do fine but a trio wont do. they have a very high chance of fighting over territory. a male would have been a better choice to get.

  4. They will get used 2 each other just pay them a lot of attention. they dont like other cats in their territory.

i have a 8 moths old cat and i rescued a 2yr old and 1yr which r mother and daughter.my male cat really didnt get on with them at first now they just ignore each other.

  5. It will get better! Try putting the kitten in a cat box in the garden so the other 2 can get a look/smell of it. Also do this in the house once they come in. Once they have the kittens scent..as long as the garden is secure...take the kitten out of the box and just keep an eye on things. You can also put the kitten in another room amd let the others get a sniff of the room he/she was in. Don't leave thenm alone tho until you are sure it's ok.

  6. i just put a new kitten with my 2 cats and a few days later she was fine with one of them playing etc but still hisses at the other ,dont worry they sort it out eventually, same as dogs etc just sorting out pecking order so to speak.
