Kitten from the pound?

I am planning on getting a new kitten from the SPCA, the cost is 75 dollars including spraying & neuturing, luekimia checks and all that kind of stuff.

What I want to know, is to check for any kinds of diseases and bumps and stuff so I can know that its a safe animal to bring into a home of a really old dog... and so I can have a fun healthy kitten!

  1. Most of the time the kitties at the shelter are healthy. If you see one sneezing... dont get him or his neighbor. Most the time the kittens in there have a lil upper respetory infection. If you get kitty home and he sneezes, i would take him back and ask for Respitory infection medication. they will give them to you.

when you get to see him or her feel the kittys skin... make sure there is no fleas... or bumps... sores... and he will be fine.

    Have fun with your kitty.

  2. you can bring it to your own vet on the way home from the shelter to get it checked out

  3. They should check them out pretty well so you most likely won't need to look for health things.  Try to focus on the cats personality and how it interacts with you and others.  That is most important.  They will let you know if any of the cats have special needs before you decide to adopt them.  Also they can tell you things like if the cat is ok around other animals such as a dog.  Don't be afraid to ask the volunteers there questions.  Congrats on getting a new cat!
