  1. No need to change litter.  She'll be a bit sore for a couple of days and want to rest. Make her a comfy bed somewhere she likes to nap. She'll have a small incision on her tummy.  You'll want to watch that for redness or seeping and make sure she doesn't l**k at it. If you have any questions don't hesitate to call the vet.  That's what they're there for. Her personality won't change for the worse. She'll still be your sweet kitty, just not bothered by heat cycles and hormones. Spaying/neutering does not make cats fat, improper diet and insufficient exercise do.

@ above:  Your unspayed cat is at risk of some deadly infections and diseases. Spaying eliminates the probability your cat will suffer disorders of the reproductive tract.  Take a look at this article on Pyometra. It's a deadly infection cats are at risk of developing every time they go into heat.  This is a breeder of champion Maine Coons and even their prize queen wasn't immune from it.

  2. I do believe they get a bit lazier after, but over all any changes are well worth it. You are helping by not having litters over and over again, which is not healthy for your little love. Also there are way too many cats in shelters, and being left on the side of the street now as it is.

And as for litter there is really no need to change.

  3. Hard clumping litter will be fine. Shredded news paper is only for when the are declawed.

  4. this link will tell you some of what you are asking..

    its about spaying kitties

keep her in a room to herself with the litter box for 24 hours after.. same litter is fine.. food and water in the roomtoo..

  5.   She will be sore for a week and take it very easy on her. She won't want to do anything but sleep. You can still use kitty litter. Just don'rub his stomack.

  6. Well... It makes them bigger usually... And although they say it does not change their personality it does. Some are more distant from the owner and people, some turn mean, and/or lazy. During the healing time it is best to use newspaper the doctor will give your further info on that.

I have a girl cat, and I dont have her spayed, I had one prior when I was growning up that was spayed and well she just turned from something sweet to something hateful.

I personally do not believe in it, esp. since I am a female, but thats just my feeling. I cant see my cat going though the pain. I hate when they say "ohh they dont feel anything"... You go in get your reproductive organs removed you tell me even with medicine if you are not in pain... Come ON!

My cat is a house cat, and although she goes in heat in the spring and summer months, I just let nature plays its course... As long as she has her shots, and monthly vet check ups, she is healthy and good to me!

  7. she will probably sleep at first she will be fine the vet has cardboard litter that works good both of my girls did not miss a beat

  8. I agree that hard clumping litter is fine. But as for how different she's going to be, it's hard to tell. It all depends on the cat. Almost all the cats I've had have calmed down soon afterwards and started to gain weight, until they're big cuddly fuzz balls of goo. But my cat I have now didnt' calm down right away, it took him about 4 to 6 months for him to calm down, and even now, he's still a ball of energy at a year and a half.

The best thing to remember right when she comes home is to just keep an eye on her. She's gonna be pretty drugged up. She should be fine by the next day.
