Question:

Kitten has diarrhea after being spayed?

My little 4month old kitten got spayed 2 days ago and the vet told me it was normal for her to not go to the bathroom for a day or so because she hadnt really eaten...but shes acting herself again...incision seems fine..she finally started using the litterbox again but she has some diarrhea...not severe but I was just wondering if thats normal?

  1. She should be back to normal in a few days. The medication ( for surgery)coupled with not eating and then eating now can cause this. Just keep an eye on it. If the diarrhea continues after 2 more days contact the vet. If it becomes constant contact immediately.

Antibiotics can and most times do cause diarrhea.I would suggest that you give her some plain  yogurt to help replenish good bacteria that is lost when antibiotics are used.Even in humans this happens and they recommend that we too eat yogurt to help.She should really enjoy some but don't give her to much and please do not give her canned food for now just her kitten dry since canned food can cause loose stools as well.Hope she does well soon and hope this has helpful for you.

  3. Yes.Spaying is harder on female.She should be ok in a couple of days.

    If not call your vet but I would consider that to be normal.

  4. If they put her on antibiotics then yes it is normal.

  5. If she's on anti-biotics, this can cause diareah
