Question:

Kitten help please!?

Ok, so a stray cat we had been feeding for a little over a year had kittens by our porch. There were 2. They were born on August 1st. Today, the mom left with one and we don't know where she went. The other kitten is still on our porch. Is it okay to feed it cows milk or baby formula with a bottle? My mom won't let us get any kitten formula because she doesn't want to be the one taking care of the kitten. And, if the mom comes back (she's only been gone a few hours), will she feed the kitten again if we already fed it? Please help!

  1. do NOT feed it cows milk unless you do not have any of the stuff in the emergency recipe. Also, kittens need to be kept WARM, and fed warm milk/formula. If you don't have a bottle, try to find an eye dropper or something like that to feed the kitten.

This is a recipe for "emergency kitten formula"

    Emergency Recipe

    2/3 cup homogenized whole milk

    3 raw egg yolks

    1 tablespoon corn oil

    1 dropper pediatric liquid vitamins

If you go about halfway down this page, it has a lot of good information about how to take care of abandoned kittens.

If the mom has been gone already for a few hours, she's probably not coming back, but watch for her.

I have been through this before, with four kittens, so feel free to email me with more specific questions! Good luck!

  2. yes she will feed it....if she comes back most likely she found a better safer place to put them you could feed him/her cows milk...best thing....wait a day and dont movie it you culd put the kitten in a small box so it wont get harmed by bigger animals..but wait a day and the mom will most likely come youcan feed it cows milk

  3. she's probably moving the kittens to a new spot. but if i were you, i would be scared not to feed it. (just in case she doesn't come back.) the best thing would be to get kitten formula if there's any way you can talk your mom into it. wild cats do sometimes abandon their kittens. if you can't get formula, try giving it some really soft canned cat food.

  4. the mother cat is just probably changing it's nest to a safer environment. just wait awhile, she should come back.

  5. Yeah I would wait. And depending on how wild the mother was I wouldn't handle the kitten either. If a wild mother cat detects your smell they will sometimes abandon the kitten completley. I have seen that happen to a kitten at my work. She is probably looking for a safe, quiet place to nest.

Also at most pet stores you can get milk replacement for kittens if she doesn't come back but nursing a newborn is really hard work. I would contact your local POP they usually will take in kittens like that. I dropped that one kitten from my work off with POP along with a donation :)

  6. Wait a little longer to see if the mom comes back. Do not feed the kitten cow's milk, it cannot digest it properly. If your mom isn't willing to help you raise it, you need to call around to local shelters and rescue group to see if there is anyone willing to foster an orphan kitten.

    Good luck!

  7. i think the mom will come back

  8. u =cant feed it "our" milk because it will get diareahha.. trust me my cat had that for a weeek...so dont feed any of regular milk or cow..actually theres milk boxes for cats..
