my kitten is about 14 weeks old and she was having severe Diahrea. I took her in to the vet he did a fecal slide test and everything looked fine. He perscribed a Rx food to try and said it could take up to 4 weeks to work. The kittens diareaha stopped but as soon as it stopped she became less intested in food and water and within a night shes decilining very fast. I've been giving her fluids and she's been dewormed and was on an anitbiotic. I've been in contact with my kitten's vet and he says I'm doing everything he would do and he doesn't know whats going on. I'm a vet tech so I'm trained to do these things. I was just wondering if anyone else has gone through this with thier kitten and can help me with advice. I'm keeping her warm and trying to get her to eat, and fluids every few hours. Anyone?

  1. I've been though a few things with one of my cats.  When he was young he vomitted and had diahrea and was panting and passed out.  Got him into the vet and he had a stomach infection - had a prescription and all was good.  Another time the same cat was being a suckhole, felt super warm, had diahnrea and was panting.  I was drinking at the time so couldn't take him into the emerg clinic so over the phone they told me to take his temp and if it was normal then I could wait until morning.  It was, and the next morning he seemed fine.

Sometimes they just get sick like we do.

  2. My only guess is that the antibiotics have caused the cat to lose it's appetite, which happens sometimes in certain cats with certain antibiotics. You must try to assist feed some food until the cat gets over it. I am a big believer in giving some probiotics after using antibiotics to help rebalance the cats gut bacteria.
