Kitten less than a week old, blood in stool, what should we do?

The other day my friend went to the pet store. the girl working there had a little kitten and said that it had been dropped off by a lady who found it in her trunk and couldn't take care of it. He offered to take it home. That was 4 or 5 days ago. We've been feeding it Kitten Milk Replacer (KMR) formula and he has been eating a good amount. After taking him to the vet we found out that he was under a week old (his eyes aren't even open). We know that this a very delicate time for a kitten, and even more so because he doesn't have his mother. Right well, the issue at the moment is that he has been having blood in his stool (which is very runny, but the vet said that was normal at this point). The blood started appearing after the vet visit so we didn't get a chance to ask. His a**s seems to be kind of swollen or like pushed out a tiny bit, and it's a little worrisome. We've been trying to keep him warm and fed, but we have no idea what is causing the blood/how to fix it. Any advice?

  1. GO BACK TO THE VET......poor thing......needs help from professional

  2. Get to the vet and ask questions.  Have it looked at.  Take a list of questions you need to ask.  I have had kittens with a condition where the lining of their anise came out.  It usual happened later in kittenhood, but it may have happened sooner with your new one.  The lining, swollen the longer it is out, can be put back in by a vet.  Sometimes he has to put a stitch to hold it in.  If this is the case, I don't know if they can do it to a very young kitten.  It usually happens when the food doesn't agree with the animal and the digestive track is upset.  Again, take it to the vet to see what he says.

  3. I know you just saw the vet, but go back again. Don't try anything to try to prevent it, because it may just hurt the kitten further. The vet will know the right thing  to do, it could be a serious problem and if left untreated could have serious affects.

    go see the vet!!!!

    hope this helps :)
