I have a 5 month old kitten, Buddy, that I just got neutered on Monday the 21st.. On Saturday i found a p**p on the carpet at the bottom of my stairs. On Tuesday I was sitting on the couch and he actually pooped in front of me. I picked him up in the middle of and put him in his cat box. Then tonight when I was watching television he went by my Entertainment Stand and squated like he was going to pee. I made a loud noise and startled him. Then 5 minutes later he tried it again. I went upstairs for a few minutes and when I came down I ran my hands along the carpet and he peed on it. I sprayed some Feliway on it but I'm upset b/c I love him and don't want this to happen. I spent alot of money when I got him. He had an upper res. infection which I had to treat twice, ear mites, then ear infections. Please help I want to be able to feel comfortable with him and now I don't.

  1. WHAT DOES YOUR VET TELL YOU...SOUNDS LIKE HE WASN'T HOUSE BROKEN TO BEGIN WITH....IT MAAY TAKE TIME...HAVE YOU EVER HAD ANY MORE CATS IN THE HOUSE. HE MAY BE TERRITORIAL MARKING BUT I DOUBT IT....CONSULT A VET IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY

  2. I think your only choice is to restrain him in closed quarters for

a little while he will be upset but get over it, then call the vet

office sometimes the assistants are very good at answering

    questions like yours

  3. Was he litter trained before he was neutered?

  4. He was groggy and not feeling well from his neutering, plus somewhat confused so he used the carpet. HIs scent is there. Now you will need to take him to the litter repeatedly until he gets the idea that this is the only place to go. This will be time consuming for a while as you will need to watch him like a hawk. You did the right thing by startling him and will need to continue doing it.

  5. I've seen cats do this before, right after being neutered for about a week.  The problem is is sometimes when they get in the litter to pee, they get some of the gritty clay on their healing and painful genital area.  Chances are, he went in the litter once got some litter on him and made him gun shy.  Most clay litters also have baking soda in them making it even worse if they get in on their new wound.

The best thing to do is to get some natural cat litters like One Earth which is made of corn cob granules or Feline Pine which is made of pine.  The only problem is since your kitty has a history of respiratory infections, avoid Feline Pine.  Another thing you can use is Cell-Sorb, which is made for post-op kitties.  http://www.cell-sorb-plus.com/litter.htm

Good luck =).  Also, Nature's Miracle to eliminate odor and stains on your carpet are great.
