Question:

Kittens born on July 10th?

I took in a pregnant cat (it was still very early in the pregnancy) and she had 7 kittens on July 10th.

She will hardly let them nurse anymore (her nipples are very sore), so I had to introduce them to wet food already.

I can't get them to learn how to use the litter box (I've raised kittens before, so I'm not new at this). Usually it only takes one or two times to put them in the box and scratch their feet around and they learn.

I have to scrub my house every night because they are going to the bathroom on the floor. Any tips?

I'd like to be able to keep them with their mom until 8-12 weeks but I'm going out of my mind.

  1. They're pretty young to be using the litter box reliably - that often doesn't happen until they are 6 weeks old.  I'd suggest confining mom and babies to an easy-to-clean area until they are a bit more reliable.  Or get one of those metal pens, and put a tarp down on the floor so that you don't have kitten mess all over the house.  Some kittens learn faster than others ....

  2. The problem is probably that there are not enough litter boxes for them to use.  When I raise a litter which is quite often because I do fostering of newborn kittens for the humane society I have found that you need a litter box for every two kittens. They might use each others boxes but when others are using one they can't wait their turn.  This always works for me hope it does for you

  3. i had this problem..my vet suggested that if they p**p in the floor take the p**p and put it in the litter box...show them the litter and usually the smell will let them know that is where they can go potty.
