I have kittens, and I don't want them getting on my bed because i have a thing about animals in the bed... but they scratch at my door and it disturbs everyone in the apartment. How can I make them stop scratching?

  1. DO NOT get the cat de-clawed. That is incredibly evil!

Try getting some repel spray from your pet shop. You can get the stuff that is meant to stop them urinating and the smell might also deter them from the door. Or you could try citrus juice. They apparently don't like it although i haven't tried this yet. Just try wiping some around the bottom of your door.  Other than that i suppose you could try covering the bottom of the door with a bit of cloth so it doesn't make a noise or get a spray bottle with some water in it and every time you are in your room and they scratch just open the door and give them a little spray. this should teach them that you don't want them doing it.

  2. Its too bad that you don't let them sleep with you--most cats enjoy the warmth and comfort of sleeping with their humans.

If you can't get over your "no pets on the bed" thing, I would recommend trying to find a kitty bed that they enjoy.  Line it with a shirt you have worn so that it smells like you--I would recommend wearing an over sized tee to bed and then giving it to them.  This will give them a place to sleep that, while not as warm as you, will still have that feeling of protection and comfort.

As for the scratching, I would try a kiddie door, so that they can at least smell you, even if they can't get to you.

Someone suggested declawing them.  This is incredibly cruel--its basically amputating the last knuckle of their toes.  It is painful, and also robs them of their weapons--if they get out of your house/apt, they will not be able to defend themselves against other animals.  Never, ever declaw an animal.  If you don't like what they are doing, take the time and make the effort to get them to stop.  Animals are not dumb--they really do, generally, want to make you happy.  You just have to communicate with them in a way that they will understand.

  3. Put up a little baby gate right infront of the door or in the hall. Thats what I do for my cat. Or get the kittens declawed. That way when they scratch the door, it will only sound like they are rubbing the door lol.

  4. Put tape on the door... sticky side out

    Aluminum foil

    cardboard.

Awwww just let them in and sleep with you!

  5. Just leave the door open enough so they can get in and out of the room while you are sleeping. Chances are, the kittens won't sleep on your bed anyway. just put a nice little bed in the corner of your bedroom for them or at the end of your bed so if they want to be near you they can. =)
