Kittiphon Chairojkanjana excels in qualifying round of Thailand Open – Badminton news
Men’s Singles shuttler Kittiphon Chairojkanjana had a great start of SCG Thailand Open as he defeated Thanadol Jumpanoi in first stage of the qualifying round on Tuesday, June 4, 2013.
This 39-minute tussle proved a real test of their mental and physical strength as it remained in full swing for three gruelling sets. Both contenders challenged each other in all areas of the game and kept the audience on their feet while piling up decisive
figures of 14-21, 21-18 and 21-19.
Kittiphon took some time to read his rival’s strategy and lost the opening game but he managed to finish the ending two games in a favourable manner. On the other hand, the other Thai campaigner failed to capitalise his initial advantage and surrendered
tamely in the final moments.
Thanadol started his campaign in perfect manner as he did not give his challenger enough time to get settled and confounded him with an intensive attack. He bagged many vital points in a row and established an unassailable lead in no time.
This early advantage proved a real booster for him as he swept the table with an overwhelming score of 21-14.
However, things were not that much easy in the following game as Kittiphon stormed back with a strong reply and tipped the scale in his favour. This time he did not repeat previous mistakes and gained a convincing advantage on the points table.
He finished first half of the set with a respectable total and doubled his chances of success by prevailing in few consecutive rallies in third quarter of the set. Although he blundered in the final stage of set, yet a few productive strokes helped him in
piling up a concluding figure of 21-18.
This development turned third set the most important segment of the showdown. Both contenders put all they had to pocket this crucial match point and the local crowd applauded their honest effort.
Initially, Kittiphon relished full benefits of his upper hand but then few fatal mistakes weakened his grip. The game was in Thanadol’s favour when he struck hard and won the decider with 21-19 margin.
Now, he will have to overcome Pannawit Thongnuam to gain access to main round of Thailand Open.
