How often should you change the litter in the litter box?? I know you should remove the clumps daily but how often should you put brand-new litter in the box?? I'm a first-time kitten owner and i have no clue.

Thanks in advance!!

  1. If you look in the box, and it looks dirty even when it's freshly scooped, then it needs to be changed.

I usually do mine every 2 weeks or so. I don't have an exact schedule for it, I just do it when it looks like it needs a scrubbing.

  2. When the kitty litter starts to get darker because of bits of urine soaked litter that wasn't clumped to pick up or when you start to notice an odor from it. I have 2 cats and a large litter box and I only have to completely change the litter every 2-3wks. But I also will add in litter before completely cleaning it iout since the urine clumps take away litter each time you scoop them out.

  3. It really depends on what kind of litter you use.  The crystal type lasts up to a month or more.  The clay & other varieties last less.  Also, some types of litter are better at absorbing & disapating the odors.... so it all depends upon the litter you use.  Also, larger cats are messier & smellier that little kittens.  No matter what, you should remove the clumps & poo daily (or every 2 days).  Just keep on eye (and nose) on your litter box(es) and use common sense.  When they begin to smell or get cruddy, it's time to change it out.  Most litter will come with usage recommendations on the packaging... check it out.  It will give you a good guide to changing the box according to how many cats use the box, etc.

Just use your common sense and your heart as a guide...  if you love your kitty, you won't want it using a dirty box!  (After all, after digging in the litter, kitty is gonna come cuddle up to you & put those sweet little paws on you to make "biscuits"! You want those paws to be clean, don't you?)

Good luck & enjoy your sweet kitty... you've got a friend for life!

  4. Usually it starts to smell and darken, so just when it gets messy & you think it needs cleaning out. Should be every 2-3 weeks.

    Hope i helped :)

  5. if you are using litter at is not the good stuff and you have 2 or more cats you should change it once a week

  6. I usually change mine every 4-6 weeks. Depends on how many cats you have, if it's just one I would change it every 6-8 weeks. One of my cats lets me know when it's time to change the box, when she poops on the floor. lol So kind of her.

  7. We usually do ours every two weeks.  I scoop every morning.  I have one cat and probably could go a little longer but she always tears up the plastic liner so I have to replace it then.

  8. Change the litter when your daily cleanings do not take away the odor.

With a kitten, you can get away with every 6-8 weeks. When your cat gets larger or if you have multile cats, once a month is best.

  9. everytime it is full and you can see the big balls of sandy ****
