Question:

Kitty with nub tail...?

My cat's kittens(litter of six)are all normally healthy, they're 21 days old(yay), eyes opened, and nursing properly(although Mommy is very skinny - no more than 5 lbs)...but one of them, we've noticed, has a docked tail. We don't think it was born this way, because there's a bit of dried blood still on it, and you can actually see the bone!!

I was wondering, could it get infected by poo or anything? And is this abnormal? Thanks.....

  1. Chances are, the momma kitty accidentally nipped it off when trying to bite the umbilical cord, or something like that.  If you can see bone and dried blood on the end of the kitten's tail, then the spinal cord is exposed and is vulnerable to infection.  Best thing to do is have it checked by a veterinarian, who can determine if antibiotics are necessary, and can also dress the wound properly.

  2. please take mommy and babies to the vet  mother could of pass on some kinda infection to the litter

  3. If it's bloody and ESPECIALLY if you can see bone, then this kitty should be seen by a vet.  Sometimes kittens are born with no tail or a stumpy tail, but it doesn't sound like that's the case.  Yes it can get infected, and yes it's abnormal.
