Kiwi media and experts criticise wretched performance by New Zealand
Pakistan defeated New Zealand at Hamilton by 10 wickets in the first Test match. The Test match ended on the third day and miseries for the home team kept increasing. This defeat triggered fumes in the New Zealand media.
After pathetic back-to-back performances in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, New Zealand won the Twenty20 International series against Pakistan. Apparently the team looked far better than their recent form suggested, but failed to carry any momentum into the Test series.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 had a frantic year in the 2010 but this year started positively as they humiliated New Zealand in the first Test match of this series.
The media boldly labelled the defeat as “The same old horror story” after the hosts were thrashed by Pakistan in the opening Test match. New Zealnd’s media criticised new coach John Wright and condemned his flop strategies.
John Wright replaced Mark Greatbatch as coach after Greatbatch failed in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754’s Asian tour. The Dominian Post added to bad press the Kiwi team has been getting and commented that “there's almost no need to belittle them, because the second innings
batting figures do that all on their own”.
The media kept on criticizing the team as the chief sports writer for Herald stated the defeat as an “embarrassingly bad”. He continued commenting on the failure and said that the team had no judgement and the wickets were handed very easily to the opposition.
He further said “some of the strokes were daft, others plain dumb. New Zealand offered nothing. They simply rolled over”.
The media was not the only body that had criticizing comments, some experts and former players also articulated their distress. New Zealand’s cricket is in an awry situation and this is not a healthy sign as the World Cup approaches.
Former cricket commentator http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bryan-c48753 Waddle said, “I've seen some depressing results in the past but mostly overseas not at home. There's not much time to restore the sense of pride and commitment (needed) to accept the challenge that this Pakistan side poses”.
The criticism is generating much hype as the defeat is bitter, considering it is against an out-of-form and scandal plagued Pakistan side. Pakistan’s team is in a rebuilding process under the new captaincy after the chapter of spot-fixing.
Pakistan’s team did pretty well in both departments of the game. Generally known for poor performances on zesty and bouncy tracks, Pakistan gained a lead of 92 runs in their first innings and then dismissed New Zealand for 110 in the second innings.
