http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 woman cricketer, Nicola Browne, has announced her retirement after nearly 9 years of cricket at the International Level.
The Kiwi all-rounder, was an out an out pacer, and was known for her wicket taking ability. The decision to hang her boots was tough but the 27-year-old states that she has achieved a lot, much to her liking, and also has great memories of her time with
the team.
"It was a tough decision but I feel that it's the right time to step away,” Browne said.
She will continue to help others to pursue their careers and dreams as the player is passionate about the sport and will help Women Cricket grow in her country.
“My focus will be on helping and supporting others to achieve their goals and dreams and doing my part to continue to grow the women's game in New Zealand, “she added.
Women’s Coach, Gary Steady, praised the fast bowler for her passion for the game and believes she is a true role model for youngsters, who want to make it big in New Zealand Cricket.
She stated, "She is an extremely dedicated and professional athlete and that showed in the way she went about preparing and playing the game."
The retirement of the player has come as a surprise as she is only 27. However, she achieved quite a lot in her career, with a distinguished award in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Twenty20, where Browne won the Player of the Tournament title, for her outstanding performance.
She played in only 2 Test matches, with the last coming way back in 2004.
It’s the two shorter versions of the game where the player excelled, contributing with both bat and ball.
In 108 ODI’s, she has averaged 27 with the bat, while claiming 77 wickets, with a best of 4-20. Her last match was against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in the NatWest Women’s Quadrangular Series in July, which her side lost by 32 runs.
She has even better at the Twenty 20 level, especially with the ball. In 34 matches, she took 33 wickets at an impressive average of 17.03.
