The Schalke striker has struggled to cement his place in the Netherlands’ starting line-up, but the former Ajax star has stressed that he will continue working hard to become the first-choice striker.

“Since the first day of the training, Van Gaal has clearly stated my role. I knew exactly what it was. Of course, I would have preferred enjoying regular playing time, but it is the coach who decides, not me. And I respect his
decision. I am not frustrated now. I will just continue working hard for my place in the starting XI”, Huntelaar was quoted as saying to AD.nl.
The prolific striker, who has thus far netted an impressive 39 goals in 58 league games for the German Bundesliga side, went on to heap praise on Netherlands’ new coach, Louis van Gaal.
“He is one of the finest coaches in the world. He is a very good reader of the game, and knows exactly what he is doing”, Huntelaar concluded.

far represented the Flying Dutchmen in 58 matches, and managed to net an impressive 33 goals along the way.
Huntelaar would be hoping that he could persuade his new coach, Louis van Gaal, with his performances at club level to give him a starting role. However, it seems highly unlikely that the former Ajax star will be able to steal
the No. 9 spot from the Manchester United striker, who is in supreme goalscoring form since last season.
