The Schalke striker has expressed his desire to become the leading goal scorer this season and wants to remain ahead of Bayern Munich’s Mario Gomez.
Schalke striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Klaas-Jan-Huntelaar-c21175, has expressed his desire to win the Golden Boot award this season. He was talking just ahead of his side’s final Bundesliga game of the season against Werder Bremen on Saturday, May 5, at the
Weserstadion.
The Dutchman currently has 27 league goals to his name from 31 appearances which is one goal more than Bayern’s Gomez. Huntelaar mentioned that it will be an honour for him to surpass Gomez and achieve the feat which he has been
eyeing since the start if this season.
Huntelaar stated that this award would mean a lot to him especially as it will be his first in the Bundesliga. The 28-year-old mused that though he won the same award twice in Holland’s Eredivisie but he will be glad to win his
first in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 while playing amongst top strikers.
While talking to sports publication, Kicker, the former Real Madrid attacker further added: "In the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753, I was top scorer twice. But in a big league like the Bundesliga, it would be worth even more."
The Dutchman signed for the Gelsenkirchen outfit in 2010 and so far has 35 league goals to his name from 55 appearances with only eight of them coming in his first season at the club. However, the attacker settled quickly at the
club and has also led his side in next season’s UEFA Champions League alongside Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach.
With just one game remaining in the competition, Huntelaar will at least need to score once against The River Islanders if Gomez is able to score against FC Koln in what is going to be Bayern’s away game this weekend.
Schalke’s game against Bremen will also be the last outing for Huntelaar’s fellow striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-c30652 Gonzalez, who will leave the club by the end of this campaign. The Spaniard has already revealed his intentions clear to both the club
officials and the fans and is expected to receive massive applause for all his contributions at the club during his two-year stay.
