Klara Spilková shines in her first round in Dubai - Omega Dubai Ladies Masters
The Czech Republic golf professional, Klara Spilková secured the third place on the leaderboard as she made five birdies in the opening round of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters.
After a successful first day on the Majlis course, the Czech golfer said that she was happy with her performance. While commenting on the five birdies she carded today she expressed that the level of play she demonstrated today was top notch.
The golf professional, who hails from Prague, stated that she felt extremely comfortable on the Majlis course because the course suited her game.
The teenager, who will turn 18 next week, is trying to get into the ranks of the top 80 players on the ISPS Handa Order of Merit.
That way she can get hold of a tour card to play in the 2013 season. The Czech is currently the 97th ranked player on the merit. A win in Dubai will prove to be very fruitful to her and also the perfect birthday present that she can give herself.
Spilková said, “My year wasn't so good, so I really want to finish good”.
She continued, “I had a few cuts, I think it was half and half. I missed a cut and then made it. So I really want to finish good, because I a little bit need to. I really want to finish, I don't know, Top‑10, it's going to be nice”.
Five players trail the Czech player by one shot, Anne-Lise Caudal of France, the English golfer Felicity Johnson, Lorie Kane of Canada, the South African player Ashleigh Simon and Nontaya Srisawang of Thailand.
So far, Caudal has had a pretty decent year. She won her second title on the Ladies European Tour when she won in Germany this year.
Talking about her day on the Majlis course, Caudal said, “I missed only four greens, so I'm quite happy with my day”.
Caudal added, “The golf course, it's always in good condition, and then the weather is pretty nice, as well. So yeah, we enjoy coming here”.
Spilková has plenty at stake and to have any chances of securing a tour card for the next season, she will have to demonstrate a flawless game throughout the tournament.
