Klara Zakopalova survives against Vania King to move into semi-final – Hansol Korea Open 2011
Higher ranked Klara Zakopalova dust binned the American underdog Vania King by surviving a mid match tumble during the quarterfinal of the Hansol Korea Open 2011. After battling for one hour and thirty six minutes on outdoor hard
courts, Czech Zakopalova won with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
After winning the pitch, Zakopalova opted to serve first and the two players won on their respective serves in the following two games and were successfully able to place themselves on the scoreboard. In the following two games
the broke each other back to back and equalized the score at 2-2.
Zakopalova held serve in the fifth game and then went on to breaking her opponent in the sixth. As she held serve n the seventh game, she was looking to break her adversary for the third and last time. Serving for the set was King
but her forehand swing went wayward and she lost the opening set.
Winning the first set boosted Zakopalova’s confidence and she again opted to serve first. Although, she managed to hold her serve for the first game and she went on to breaking her adversary in the second to take a mini lead of
2-0, her excitement was cut short as King made a comeback by breaking Zakopalova in the third game.
During the following five games the players rallied for awhile and eventually the score was tied at 4-4. Although, neither of the players was ready to throw in the towel, King took a notch higher and broke her adversary for the
last time in the ninth game.
By the end of the ninth game, King was now serving for the second set and smashed an ace at 40-love to clinched the set, restricting her opponent to only four games.
The players each had won a set by the end of the second and serving for the third and final set was King. She got off on t he wrong foot and lost the first game but then eventually broke back in the second to equalize the score
at 1-1.
Amidst the third and fourth game Zakopalova not only held her serve but also broke her adversary in the to go two breaks up in the set. Dominating from the start Zakopalova again broke her adversary in the fifth game to further
increase the gap between them.
In the following two games Zakopalova held her serve and because her opponent double faulted on the second serve, King ended up gifting a costly match to Zakopalova, who was finally able to restore her dignity.
Zakopalova will now be facing Espanola Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in the semi final of the event.
