Klara Zakopalova trounces Annika Beck in round one – Swedish Open 2012
World number 33, Klara Zakopalova, was tested in the opening round clash by the 142nd ranked German, Annika Beck, but she survived the onslaught and clasped the win 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. A battle of an hour and 48 minutes witnessed
everything from both players and the deserving contender marched on to the second round of the Sony Ericsson Swedish Open in style.
The opening set witnessed an early breakpoint for Beck and she continued to control the proceedings. It was an uncharacteristic start by the 33rd ranked Czech who looked a bit out of her socks in the first round clash.
German qualifier marched on to win another breakpoint in the seventh game of the match  and that proved enough for her to devastate the competitor with a thumping opening set score line.
The tables were turned upon the 18-year-old German when the sixth seed Czech turned on the gear in the second set. Both players exchanged six break points on the trot. It seemed like no one will manage a serve hold for the whole
set but out of nowhere the Czech starlet bagged a serve hold and lead the scores 4-3. She broke serve and enhanced the score line.
Nothing was going right for Beck since the serve hold for the sixth seed Czech and the frustration forced her to play some uncharacteristic shots that proved suicidal. She lost the second set and that brought the players back on
the level terms.
Beck went down to breaks early in the final set that drowned her to a trail of 0-3. However, she recovered one break back in the following game and held her serve to decrease the trail to just 2-3. She broke serve again to defy
all the odds and bring the scores back on level terms.
Both players swapped breakpoints to push the scores at 4-4. However, the following game proved to be the last serve game for Beck as she dropped a breakpoint to love and allowed her opponent to win the match with a serve hold which
Zakopalova did with ease.
Zakopalova plays Mariana Duque-Marino in round two.
