Klara Zakopalova’s most important goal is to stay healthy – Tennis News
Czech Republic’s Klara Zakopalova is one spot less than her career best rank of 27 but her main goal is to stay healthy.
The Czech shining star displayed spectacular tennis this year as she reached the fourth round at the Roland Garros and cracked the Top 30 at the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings. She also reached far in several WTA tournaments and ruled
throughout the circuit.
Despite enjoying her best tennis, the Czech’s main mission is to stay healthy and fit which is the most important thing in life. She commented in an interview to the WTA site, “I have my own goal, which I'm just keeping to myself and not really talking about...
but I am still far away from it. But the most important thing is to stay healthy, and everything else isn't that important!”
The 30-year-old made a drastic start of 2012 as she crashed out from opening rounds at the Brisbane International, Moorilla Hobart International and the Australian Open. However, she lifted her game after that and cruised to semi-finals at the Open GDF Suez
in Paris. She stunned sixth seed Julia Goerges in quarters before bowing out to second seed Marion Bartoli in the final four.
She then maintained consistency in her game at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells where she upset 19th seeded Daniela Hantuchova and ninth seeded Vera Zvonareva to make a fourth round showing.
The Czech veteran re-kindled her spark at the AEGON International and made another final four showing (lost to fifth seed Angelique Kerber). She also made quarter-final berths at the Kremlin Cup and the Hansol Korea Open.
After enjoying a successful season, Zakopalova spent off-season with her husband in Austria. Her friends Lucie Safarova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova also accompanied her in their trip. She reflected, “I had a great off-season! I went to Austria with my
husband. We stayed at the same hotel with Lucie Safarova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova and we had a lot of fun. We were skiing a lot in the Soelden mountains and had some wellness in the afternoons.”
Ranked 28th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Zakopalova is currently looking forward to carry her rhythm for the upcoming season. The Czech is training with her new coach, Martin Nekola, who has worked with the former world number 22 Bohdan Uhlirach.
