Klec/Siljestrom upset Kravchuk/Molchanov to lift title – Siberia Cup 2012 CH
Slovakian-Swedish junction, Ivo Klec and Andreas Siljestrom, stunned the top seeds, Russia’s Konstantin Kravchuk and Ukraine’s Denys Molchanov, in straight sets at the Siberia Cup 2012 on Saturday. They juggled up a 6-3, 6-2 victory against the seeds to capture the crown at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event taking place in Tyumen, Russia.
The unseeded tandem displayed top notch performance to overpower Kravchuk and Molchanov in their first encounter. After ruling the battle in 50 minutes, the Slovakian-Swedish pair captured the title and bagged the prize money.
Klec and Siljestrom made a thunderous entry at this indoor hard court tournament taking place from 19th to 25th November. They drew the first blood in the second game and jumped to a 3-0 lead before his opponents could come on the score sheet. The Slovakian-Swedish junction kept his remaining serves with poise and eventually sealed the opener by winning six games to three. They dusted away all three breakpoints they faced and cashed the lone break chance to inch towards glory.
The high flying junction kept momentum rolling in the following set. They got the critical break in the third game and jumped to a 3-1 lead. Klec and Siljestrom held his remaining serves with poise and after breaking their rivals’ serve again, eventually clicking the set with a 6-2 win. They bagged their entire serves without facing any barrier and converted both break chances to their advantage.
Overall, the Slovakian-Swedish team smashed three aces and ended the match with 50 points. They spilled more double faults but clobbered a better first serve share of 83 per cent as compared to their rivals’ 68 per cent. Klec and Siljestrom amazingly marked 31 out of 40 points on it and ruled throughout the battle.
The unseeded duo triumphed over the local wild card entrants, Vladislav Dubinsky and Alexander Lobkov, in straight sets in opening round.
They lost their track towards the quarter-finals and gifted away the opener against second seeds, Russia’s Mikhail Elgin and Latvia’s Andis Juska. However, Klec and Siljestrom remained focused and ultimately carved out the victory with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 victory.
In the semis, the Slovakian-Swedish tandem again made an epic comeback to overpower their rivals, Kirill Dmitriev and Evgeny Korolev, and eventually secured a place in the final round.
