Kleinveldt hoping to get better – Cricket News Update
South African seamer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 but added that he is ready to make amends when he next features for the national side, hopefully in the near future.
The 29-year-old was included in the squad following an injury to Marchant de Lange, and further made into the playing XI for the first Test at Gabba after the management decided to field a four-pronged pace attack on a generally quick Brisbane wicket.
The bar had already been raised by the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vernon-Philander-c2753 and de Lange, both of whom made sparkling contributions on their respective debuts last year. Philander took a five-wicket haul during the now infamous Australian rout in Cape Town, while de Lange bagged 7 against the Lankans.
However, as it stood, Kleinveldt had a shocking maiden appearance, where he sent 21 wicketless overs, and conceded 97 runs in the process. It further included 12 no-balls and a poor first spell where he bowled either too short or too wide. His ground fielding also left a lot to be desired, which ultimately let the Aussies off the hook, who then went on to compile 565, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 leading the way with a stupendous double-hundred.
While his poor outing will indeed force the Proteas outfit to re-think their strategies, all is still not doom and gloom for the 29-year-old. The pitch offered little to the bowlers and even http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 Tahir for the upcoming Test in order to give them more bowling options. Kleinveldt however, is remaining optimistic.
“We thought there was going to be a bit of pace and bounce in the Gabba wicket. We thought the wicket will [move] around and four seamers would be the way to go."
"We'll have to see [who plays] when we get down to Adelaide. They haven't told me anything about who is playing there."
"This match was tough and I wish I could have done a little bit better but obviously that's how it went. I've just got to pick myself up and prepare well for the next Test match, and hopefully that will go better," he said.
