The Borussians' manager has revealed his frustration regarding the team’s defensive frailty, and is confident that they can get better in the coming games.
Borussia Dortmund head coach Jurgen Klopp echoed his dismay over BVB’s poor defensive display this season after they drew 3-3 against Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday. Dortmund were twice in the lead the game, but allowed the home
team to get back into the match, and therefore had to share the spoils.
The defending league champions have a lot of work to do on the defensive front as they conceded six goals in their previous two Bundesliga encounters. Stuttgart and Hoffenheim are the only two teams to concede more goals than Dortmund
until now.
The trainer stated that they are among the worst defensive sides in the Bundesliga and have let in the third-most goals in the competition, and that is something to worry for the Bundesliga giants. He said that he will try to rectify
this issue and they need a lot of effort to tackle the situation.
"We have conceded the third-most goals in the league. This is a terrible statistic. We will approach this problem, and we have a lot of work to do," Klopp was quoted as saying in an interview.
The tactician suggested that his team players are fine and just need to concentrate more during the games. They need to stop playing foolishly and help the team maintain balance, and give the forwards a chance to secure all three
points for the club. Klopp revealed that they will be ready next time and will improve their defensive performance.
"The lads have not lost their memory. We just focus on the wrong things. We often were half-a-yard off. We are totally spoiled offensively, but we need to give better protection to our attacks,” he mused.
"And if we do that we won't make it so easy for our opponents, even for well-playing ones," he finally concluded.
Dortmund are currently sixth in the league rankings and have accumulated eight points from five matches. They are behind Bayern Munich by seven points and have an uphill task to catch them.
