Die Borussen manager admitted that his side has conceded far too many goals this season, but does not feel it should be considered as a major problem.
Borussia Dortmund team trainer stressed that the BVB’s defence is not to be singled out for their unconvincing start to the 2012-13 campaign, even though they have the third-worst defensive record in the Bundesliga. The German
club is currently in sixth place and due to their woeful performance at the back drew 3-3 with Eintracht Frankfurt.
The defending champions have failed to make a strong impact in the current campaign, snapping up only one win in their last three matches and letting in nine goals in the meantime. The coach is wary of the lack of form, but is
confident that they will improve in the course of the season.
The boss said that the goals they conceded were not entirely their own fault but due to the inventive play of the rival team. However, he admitted that his defenders were at fault in some of the goals but in the Hamburg game, the
opposition scored from some quality play to stun the DFB-Pokal cup winners.
"We recently have made some mistakes at the back. Against Hamburg, there were individual errors, but there were also some brilliant attacks from our opponents,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The young trainer stated that in the Bayer Leverkusen match his side were good on the defensive front and contained the Leverkusen attack, therefore there is no doubt that the team can defend.
"Against Leverkusen we defended really well and did not allow them many chances, so we know how to defend,” he added.
However, the former Mainz striker admitted that the BVB are not showing last season’s form and are not even keeping their routine clean sheets.
"You have to live with certain setbacks. We create a lot of goal-scoring chances, but concede from almost every effort our opponent has [on target],” he finally concluded.
Klopp said that they will cope with their deficiencies and maintained that they always create a lot of goal-scoring opportunities, but need to improve their defensive display.
