Die Borussen coach has requested his back four to focus and improve their performances for the upcoming DFL-Super Cup match with Bayern Munich on Sunday.
Borussia Dortmund head manager Jurgen Klopp has demanded his back line to concentrate on diminishing their weaknesses and to add strength to their defence as the German double winning side are preparing for the coming campaign.
The Black Yellows had a troubled game with Werder Bremen in which they conceded three goals and drew 3-3. Their defence was to be blamed as they went on to lose the match in the shootout of the pre-season fixture of Liga Total!
Cup.
The tactician believes that Dortmund need to up their game in defence as the best form of attack is defence. He also said that the side cannot afford to defend like they did against Bremen when they face the Bavarian giants in
the DFL-Super Cup clash on Sunday.
The Bundesliga trainer has asked his squad to take control of their actions and perform better. He suggested that the Bundesliga champions must seek the help of training and not repeat their poor showings in the defensive department
as it is not in their nature to mess up.
"I wanted them to take on board the things we have done in training. I have seen nothing of the sort with the defence. That's not right,” the former Mainz 05 striker and defender was quoted as saying in an interview.
Klopp insisted that the annual pre-season is an eye opener for the DFB-Pokal winners and that he has learned immensely from the experience of their defeat. He further added that the team had no stability at the back but concedes
that they just need to work a little bit on their faults as they are making efforts to redeem themselves.
"This has taught me an important lesson. We had no security. We do not have much to do, but we are preparing," he finally concluded.
The BVB start their Bundesliga campaign on August 24 after facing Oberneuland in the German cup on August 18. The Westfalenstadion side will be looking to add to their back to back league titles.
