The German double winning side will play a tough league opener against the River Islanders on Friday as the BVB look forward to achieve a hat-trick of Bundesliga titles.
Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp is confident approaching the upcoming campaign and concedes that he is assured of a good league run. The German Champions will face Werder Bremen in their first league match.
The tactician suggested that he was not happy with the pre-season performances of his side but admits that they will be raring to go in their opening fixture. The coach believes that the team will not be in full form in the coming
match, but will put their best efforts to secure a good result out of it.
"I do not expect us to play our best match of the season against Bremen, but the best game that we are able to on the day," said Klopp.
The former Mainz 05 player and coach stressed that he is pleased with the fitness of his players, and is aware of the threat posed by their rival team.
"I am satisfied with the state of the squad, but the first match is always a challenge," he mused.
The 45-year-old stated that there are great expectations from his squad as they won the league title consecutively in two years. Therefore, he wants his players to challenge for a third successive Bundesliga honour.
"Our fans know winning consecutive titles was exceptional, but they also know that this a new season," he noted.
The club official said that it was a great honour to win the league and cup last term, but he claimed that they need to remain hungry for more silverware, if they want to succeed again.
"It feels good being double champions, but this year we must challenge ourselves to remain greedy, like we are striving to win our first title. When we win I celebrate as much as the fans, but when we lose I am more disappointed
than anyone,” he concluded.
The coach further added that Bayern and BVB are the favourites for the league crown, but he thinks that Schalke and Borussia Monchengladbach can pull up a surprise.
