Knee Injury forces Wakefield Wildcats Trinity’s fullback Mathew Blaymire to retire  – Rugby News
Belle Vue based English Rugby League club, Wakefield Wildcats Trinity, has announced that their talented full back, Mathew Blaymire, will retire from the game at the end of the ongoing 2011 Super League season. Officials at the club have released the details in a statement posted on their website on Wednesday, September 7.
Club officials have termed a persistent knee injury as the main reason, which has cut short Blaymire’s rugby career. They further confirmed that doctors have adviced Blaymire to do the same.
Matthew Blaymire has expressed his disappointment on this sudden end to his career. He has expressed his sadness on leaving the club and the game. He added, “It is something I wasn’t hoping to do at such a young age but I now have to move on to the next chapter in my life.”
Blaymire further added that he has enjoyed playing with the Wildcat and said, “I will look back on many fond memories at Wakefield, having made some life long friends and worked with some great people. I would like to thank The Wildcats for my time here and I wish them every success for next season and beyond.”
Wakefield Wildcats Trinity Chief Executive Officer, James Elston, has termed Blaymire as a “great servant” to the club. He has particularly commented on his hard work, commitment and dedication for the game.
Elston further added, “On behalf of everyone here I would like to thank Matt for his efforts and wish him all the best in any future career plans that he may have.”
The Yorkshire born Blaymire started his professional Rugby League career with York City Knights in 2003. He played 49 games for the Knights and scored 80 points, during his three season stay at the club.
The 29-year-old Blaymire joined the Wildcats at the start of the 2007 season. He has made approximately 99 appearances for the Wildcats and has scored 105 points. This includes his 11 appearances for the club during the 2011 Engage Super League championship.
