Knee arthroscopy? Can i take any nurofen before i get it done?

I'm going to get a knee arthroscopy on tuesday does any one know if i can take nurofen for the pain.

  1. As Nurofen is an anti-inflammatory, I don't think it will be very affective BEFORE you get pain. I would suggest you talk to the doctor who will be doing the procedure. I doubt whether you will get any pain from the procedure, anyway, as it is normally done under a local anaesthetic..


  2. Check with your doctor.  It does not affect blood clotting as much as aspirin does, but it still has a negative effect on it.

    I am an RN.

Usually before any surgery, it is a rule you take nothing by mouth past midnight unless it is blood pressure medicine that you can take with just a sip of water, other than that don't take anything. You won't even feel any pain right after the surgery and the Doctor will prescribe you a pain medication for you to take at home if you need it. Don't take anything else unless you ask the Doctor.
