I am planning on joining the military sometime next year, but about a month ago i injured my knee thinking it was just from "over using" it, the pain has gone away a little bit but i have a popping sensation when walking (sometimes) with no pain. anyways i have been looking up knee problems on line, and asking questions and the closet thing that I have come up with is a torn meniscus, so i guess worse case scenario i have surgery on it will i still be accepted into the military? and are knee braces allowed in boot camp?

  1. not unless they issue it to you while at Boot.  you will not be permitted top bring one.

  2. No you can't bring a knee brace with you to basic.  My advice would be unless you have seen a doctor and the doctor diagnose you with a problem do not create one.

  3. Its possible that you may not be allowed into the military, as a knee injury could get in the way of your duties.  As far as I know, you are not allowed to wear any brace or support item of any kind unless it is issued to you by a military doctor (that doesn't mean I'm right, but I'm almost positive its true).  Your best bet would be to make a doctors appointment and pinpoint the problem.  It may not be as severe as you think, or just the opposite.  For your overall personal health, take care of those knees, because when you get older, youre really gonna feel any neglect from the past.  Sometimes, if it is something small as an overused ligament, that can be easily fixed through personal rehabilitation, like swiming or simple exercises that strengthen the knee or even walking a mile or two every night.

If you do end up having to use a knee brace for vigorous activity such and running or even squatting, chances are you will not be allowed to join the military.  Since you are considering waiting a while to join, that gives you time to get that knee back up to par and to be able to continue life without the help of a brace.  Which will help your chances in being able to join the military.

    Good luck to you!

  4. A current meniscus injury which is unresolved is disqualifying for entry. So, you are not fit for entry at this time. You will need to get it surgically repaired first, then take your physical all over again.
