Knee injury: Cincinnati Bengals hope TE Jermaine Gresham avoids ACL – NFL News
The Cincinnati Bengals are waiting for test results to confirm the status of tight end Jermaine Gresham’s injury after he left the field in first quarter of the game against the Atlanta Falcons on past Thursday and did not return to action for rest of the
time.
Bengals after the game, which they won 24-19 to lead the preseason 2-0, confirmed the injury of the TE but did not disclose its nature. The team told journalists that the player had hurt his right knee and was on the sidelines since first quarter of the
game.
Jermaine was seen limping with an apparent right knee injury and later some circles aware of the development hinted at the possibility of him suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). However, they too mentioned of the team’s confidence in the possibility
that the player has avoided suffering any serious blow.
From the TE’s condition all did not look well. It was also reflective in the fact that the player did not show up for rest of the game. He was taken on the sidelines and then to locker room of the team with reports that Bengals’ doctors were inspecting him
for ACL or any other injury.
Since the information around the incident was thin at the time of filing of this report, it is difficult to speculate exact status of the blow and expected time for the player to be on the sidelines.
He is certainly to remain out of the side for longer period if the injury is an ACL, and in spite of Bengals’ hopes that he returns soon, it will not be a welcome development for them. The player’s absence is crucial to the team’s overall squad balance and
performance, which is going to be affected to a certain extent in his absence.
The 24-year Pro Bowl Jermaine looked hundred percent before the game, and was upbeat about Bengals’ victory chances. Later, his premature departure saddened the teammates as well.
Bengals are expected to give an official version of his injury status after receiving scans results later in the week, and all the players hope that he has not suffered any serious scare.
