Knee injury: Cleveland Browns’ RB Trent Richardson doubtful for preseason opener – NFL News
Cleveland Browns said they are evaluating sore knee of running back Trent Richardson, but are not hundred percent if the rookie is going to make it to the preseason opener later this month.
Second year coach Pat Shurmur confirmed the player is in an injury scare but declined giving more details around the injury, which, he said, is a mere sore knee and being evaluated.
Pat said:
"There's a chance he won't play on Friday. He's got a sore knee and is being evaluated."
He added:
"I'm always concerned about injuries. He's been practicing well. We'll just have to see where he is."
Trent himself called the injury a little issue, not a setback, and apparently hopes for an immediate return to the field, irrespective of the coach’s doubts about his participation in the preseason campaign.
The rookie said:
"It was a little scope. I don't even call it a setback."
He was referring to the surgery he had on the knee during this offseason.
The problem of soreness, as per claims of both sides, could be a result of the hectic workout schedule at training camp. A couple of days’ rest may improve the condition and enable the player to be back on the field.
Richardson, who, as per remarks of the coach, been impressive at training camp all along, missed training last week as well due to headache.
The conditions are rather tough at the camp and extensive training activity is taking heavy toll on health and fitness of the players, particularly rookies. Fatigue and tiredness have emerged to be the most common problem so far. The situation is expected
to improve with start of the preseason phase, as the players will have less workload and can take some rest before and after the games.
Richardson is one of the late signees by Browns as his deal faced some hurdles over controversial offset language condition. He signed a $20.5 million, four-year contract just before start of training camp in last week of July.
